Apple’s demand: remove Tweetbot 5
Before Apple Tweetbot 6 in the iOS App Store, the app manufacturer Tapbots had to comply with a request from the iPhone group. Version 5 of the alternative Twitter client must be removed from the software store for iPhone and iPad no later than 30 days after the successor is published, Apple demanded. As long as the fulfillment of this condition has not been bindingly promised, Tweetbot 6 cannot be accepted, the responsible reviewer informed the app developers.
Lively discussions on Twitter and Reddit
Tabbots founder Paul Haddad opened what he thought was an unusual process Twitter public. According to the developer, they wanted to withdraw Tweetbot 5 from the iOS App Store after the new version was released, but still wanted to inform about Apple’s request. Both on Twitter and at Reddit lively discussions then relax. Some users suspect that Apple was primarily concerned with removing the one-time purchase version in order to increase its own income through the commission on the regular subscription fees of Tweetbot 6.
Change in the App Store Review Guidelines?
Paul Haddad isn’t sure if Apple’s request is based on changes in the App Store Review Guidelines. He suspects that it may be a case-by-case decision by a reviewer. In the past, however, it was already possible to offer several versions of an app at the same time in the iOS App Store without any problems, reports the Tapbots founder. In the meantime, Tweetbot 5 has been withdrawn from the App Store. However, users who have bought the older version can still use it and also reinstall it after resetting their iPhone or switching to a new device.
