The top-selling manufacturers in terms of quantities
The ranking of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers continues to be led by Samsung, as 80.8 million smartphones came from the South Korean group. It is followed by Huawei with 51.9 million and Xiaomi with 44.4 million units sold. Gartner calculates 40.6 million for Apple, which means that Cupertino drops from third to fourth place. Oppo had to cope with a slight decrease to 29.9 million devices, all other manufacturers combined brought it to 119 million devices and a 32 percent share. This shows how competitive the market is – even though Apple is by far the most profitable supplier, the majority of which come from the higher and high-priced segment.
No new iPhone in the third quarter
The chosen period is a bit unfavorable for Apple because the new iPhone generation usually appears in September. This time, however, Apple still had to contest the entire quarter with the 2019 line-up – and could only start selling the iPhone 12 in October. At the same time, however, this means that we will be able to prepare for a significant increase in sales in the fourth quarter of the year. Accordingly, the only marginal decline in numbers documented by Gartner is good news. Apple lost 0.6 percentage points of market share, but pessimistic voices had assumed a much stronger slump.
