Make one out of two
According to the Taiwanese website Economic Daily News two prototypes of a future iPhone have passed internal durability tests. The Foxconn plant in Shenzhen, China, has subjected the hinges’ resistance to corresponding tests. The first of the two prototypes is an iPhone with two displays – but their interaction comes very close to a single large screen. In fact, there have been repeated indications of such a development in the past: For example, the prominent leaker Jon Prosser alluded to such an iPhone with a folding mechanism in June 2020 (see).

The second prototype is reminiscent of flip phones from earlier times – which are currently experiencing a revival in the form of Android smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Lenovo’s motorola razr. OLED panels from Samsung are intended for these devices. The main purpose of the tests is limited to the durability of the hinges – after these are evaluated, Apple wants to focus on the development of one of the two mechanisms. However, final results cannot be expected too quickly: an older one The report assumes market-ready devices in September 2022 at the earliest.
