New at Apple: the “iPhone Rear System”
How MacRumors reports, Apple is informing the technicians of authorized service partners about a new repair procedure: Customers whose devices cannot be switched on or who indicate problems with the logic board, Face ID system or housing no longer necessarily receive a replacement device. Broken glass on the back of the iPhone is no longer a problem for the new method. Apple supplies service partners and probably also the in-house Genius Bar with a so-called “iPhone Rear System”, which includes the rear housing of an iPhone with all relevant components : Components such as the battery, the Face ID module and logic board as well as the inductive charging coil and the Taptic Engine can be easily replaced. If, on the other hand, there is a defective camera or a broken display, the person concerned will continue to receive a full replacement for the device.
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini qualify for the new repair procedure – Apple still provides a replacement device for the Pro models. The iPhone Rear System will be used from February 23rd in all countries that sell the corresponding devices. Apple told the technicians that they wanted to use this measure to further improve their CO2 balance.
