IINA 1.2 is optimized for Apple Silicon
The just published version 1.2 runs for the first time natively on Apple’s own M1 processors and has been optimized accordingly. In contrast to VLC, the developers deliver IINA as a universal binary, the updated version is therefore equally suitable for owners of Mac mini M1, MacBook Air M1 and MacBook Pro 13 “M1 as well as Intel Macs .2 brings neither new features nor bug fixes.

IINA 1.2 is on the website of the open source project is available for download; the file is almost 43 megabytes in size. The source code under the GPL3 is on GitHub to find. You need a Mac running at least macOS 10.11 El Capitan, but the developers recommend macOS 10.15 Catalina or macOS 11 Big Sur. After the download, the app is initially available in English, Translations in more than 30 other languages, including German of course, can be downloaded separately. A Safari extension is delivered with IINA as standard and can be activated in the settings of Apple’s own browser. There are also extensions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
Support for all popular video and audio formats
IINA masters all common and historical video and audio formats, so that almost all locally stored files and online streams can be played. Support for YouTube playlists is also built in. In addition, the free video player supports the Touch Bar, has gesture control with mouse and trackpad and offers an individually adaptable user interface including dark mode. A picture-in-picture mode is also available.
